On June 30th, 2018, I spent part of my afternoon in front of the Olympia Capitol Building. There was a protest out on the steps of the legislative building. Walking up to the lawn I was very surprised by the number of people who showed up. I believe there were 200-300 people.
The protest lasted for about an hour and a half and many people talked. People of all ages came to talk and listen, from babies to the elderly, even some dogs came out to support. Everyone there was there for the same reason. They all believe that the children should be reunited with their families. People chanted in English and in Spanish and signs were everywhere. People even had foil blankets that are given to the children who are being imprisoned. I was so happy to see the turnout of people at this event.

Growing up in Louisiana, protests, and marches were very different just because of the population of Democrats versus Republicans. This was my first time ever going to a protest without my parents, it was definitely a new experience. This was also my first time going to a protest in Olympia, it was definitely a new way to spend my Saturday morning.
*Note: I am not someone who wants to write a lot of political posts and have arguments on my page. I just wanted to write about this because it is something I experienced.
